Water Castle of Royal Yogyakarta

Explore the royal retreat of Tamansari, a unique blend of Eastern and Western architecture. The most famous place in Tamansari is the bathing and resting place of the Sultan and his Princesses named Umbul Pasiraman.

The Sultan, fond of hunting, inspired the creation of Umbul Pasiraman. Unlike the deer-focused Panggung Krapyak, this spot was designed for princesses to bathe and the Sultan to relax while "hunting" for a wife.

Legend has it that the Sultan would toss a rose from the south tower, and the princess who caught it became his potential wife. The pools – Umbul Binangun, Umbul Muncar, and Blumbang Kuras – served as bathing areas for the princesses. In addition to Umbul Pasiraman, visitors can explore an underground tunnel and a unique circular mosque. The tunnel, once a hideout, now partially serves as a residence. The mosque features a circular design with Sumur Gumilang beneath, a place where the Sultan prayed.

The best part is it’s only a few steps away from the Sultan's Palace. You can explore these places along with other UNESCO sites like the Borobudur Temple or Prambanan Temple on a tour to save time and avoid confusion.
