- Introduction to Uradome Coast -

Uradome Coast is a ria coast (submerged coast) characterized by beautiful
natural scenery such as strange rocks, caves, and cliffs. It is part of the
San'in Coast National Park and has been designated as a national place of
scenic beauty. The San'in Coast Geopark, which includes Uradome Coast, was
certified as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2010.

The visibility at a depth of 25m is said to be the most beautiful in the Sea
of Japan, and the beach has been selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Beaches,
as well as one of Japan's 100 Best White Sand Beaches and Green Pine Beaches.

With this plan, you can take a sightseeing boat around the islands of Uradome
Coast and enjoy the dynamic scenery as if you were on an adventure.

There is also a restaurant and a cafe at the boat dock. Please come and try
some.

-Here are some examples of must-see spots-

  • This cave is large enough for a small boat to enter. It was named after the many swallows that used to build their nests on the ceiling.

You cannot see swallows near the cave, but recently they have been building
their nests under the Kutsui Ohashi Bridge, right next to the sightseeing boat
dock, so when it gets warmer you can see their adorable appearance near the
    pier.

  • Kannonura and Nishi-Oshima is an inlet dotted with countless islands of various sizes. It is said that this name was given to this area in March of the first year of the Daido era under Emperor Heizei, when a golden Kannon statue was discovered on the seabed of a small island in the inlet. Even today, this area is revered as a sacred place of the sea, and it is said that it was used as a refuge for ships in the past. The large island at the tip of Kannonura is Nishi-Oshima, and to the east of that is Naka-Oshima, and further east of that is Higashi-Oshima.

  • Tarobei Island is characterized by the fact that it has five or six pine trees and looks relatively smoother than the other islands. The name comes from the fact that a fisherman named Tarobei swam to the island long ago when his ship was wrecked in a rough storm off the coast of this island, narrowly escaping death. Tarobei treasured the island for the rest of his life, and so the island was named after him.

  • An inlet dotted with countless islands of all sizes, like Kamogaiso Coastal Garden. This scenic coastline was named after the rocks where flocks of geese play. The white sand of this beach is mainly made up of feldspar and quartz, and is as transparent as crushed glass, so it has been designated a natural monument. Pleasure boats go around the inlet. On days when the water is clear, you can see the seabed.

  • Natane Island and Natanegoto Islands are approximately 60m high and 400m in circumference, making them the largest islands on the sightseeing boat course. They were so named because of the wild rapeseed flowers that bloom in the spring. One theory is that a ship loaded with rapeseed was wrecked offshore long ago, and the rapeseed washed ashore and grew wild, which is where they are today. Offshore from Natane Island, five islands form a beautiful arrangement that makes up Natanegoto Island. The inlet on the west side of these islands is called Kagadono, and the name remains today because about 400 years ago, Kaganokami, a senior vassal of Lord Ikeda, would customarily hold drinking parties in this beautiful inlet.

  • 500m offshore from Kuroshimadago Port, you can see the strange black island of Kuroshima, where the sightseeing boat turns around. Most of the islands visible from the sightseeing boat are made of light pink granite, but this island is unique in that it is made of tuff breccia. It got its name from the fact that it looks black when viewed from a distance.

  • Rakudajima and Ishigakijima are two neighboring islands, separated by about 6m. On days when the sea is not too rough, sightseeing boats pass through this narrow gap. As the boat passes, you will see on your left an island resembling a two-humped camel sitting down - this is Rakudajima. On your right you will see Ishigakijima, so named because it looks like the stone walls of a castle. The surrounding area has also been designated as a marine park, and on days when the seawater is crystal clear, it is breathtakingly beautiful.
