Pompeii became the "holiday residence" of the Roman patriciate and, in the imperial age, many families favorable to the policy of Augustus, moved here and had buildings built such as the Temple of Fortuna Augusta and the Eumachia Building.
You'll pass through the street named Via Dell'Abbondanza, Full of restaurants, bars, bakeries, carpenters, laundries, greengrocers and private houses, Via dell'Abbondanza was the road of greatest ferment from the early hours of the morning. It passed near the Forum and the Comitium, and constituted the lower decumanus of the City of Pompeii.

    By the turn of the first century A.D., the town of Pompeii, located about five miles from the mountain, was a flourishing resort for Rome’s most distinguished citizens. Elegant houses and elaborate villas lined the paved streets. Tourists, townspeople and slaves bustled in and out of small factories and artisans’ shops, taverns and cafes, and brothels and bathhouses. People gathered in the 20,000-seat arena and lounged in the open-air squares and marketplaces. On the eve of that fateful eruption in 79 A.D., scholars estimate that there were about 12,000 people living in Pompeii and almost as many in the surrounding region.

Pompeii tickets – ID requirement: It is mandatory for all participants to carry a valid photo ID on the day of the tour. The personal details provided at the time of booking (e.g. first and last name) must exactly match those on the ID, as Pompeii tickets are nominative and non-transferable. Local staff at the archaeological site are entitled to check IDs at the entrance. In case of discrepancies, spelling errors or missing information, they may refuse entry to one or more participants at their sole discretion. Discover Italy cannot be held responsible for any refusal of entry due to incorrect or incomplete data provided by the participants, and no refund will be due in such cases.
Weather, clothing and itinerary: The tour runs in all weather conditions; we recommend wearing comfortable shoes and bringing a light jacket and an umbrella. Any waiting times during stops (for explanations, security checks or photo opportunities) may occur and are not dependent on the organization. The guide and tour leader reserve the right to modify or adjust the itinerary if necessary for operational or safety reasons (for example due to traffic, site regulations or unexpected closures).
Timing and punctuality: Please arrive at the meeting point at least 5 minutes before the scheduled tour departure time. Tours and transportation services must leave on schedule to guarantee the full experience and on-time return to the ship. A maximum waiting time of 15 minutes is allowed in case of participant delays. After this time, staff may leave the meeting point and begin the tour. Participants not present will be considered NO SHOW and no refund will be due.
