Bali, among other things, is also famous for various local traditions. One of them is the profession of the ‘balian’, which is another term for traditional healers or medicine specialists in Bali. The Balian is most commonly seen as a village doctor or shaman type figure that use spiritual knowledge and energy to heal physical and mental afflictions. Even in today’s modern age, many people still believe in the “Balian”. When someone suffers misfortune in their life, whether through disease, accidents, or other terrible situations, the Balinese believe that the individual was in disharmony with their surroundings as a result of inappropriate behavior. This leads to the Balinese approaching the Balian to recover from their ailments. We will be visiting a famous Balian in Bona Village, Gianyar. He admits that he has received the gifts from wise and well-known Balinese masters. Hundreds of people have already entrusted him with their energy restoration.
Mind, Body and Spirit Purification
  • Tegalalang

1 hours 30 minsAdmission Ticket Free
We start day 2 from Byakaon Upacara held in Manuaba village. This ceremony is aimed at cleansing human mind, speech and spirit. We will dress in Sarong, a traditional Balinese clothing and Hindu holy man, known as Jero Mangku, will take the lead. Mangku will guide us through the journey involving presenting the offering, calming the mind, and praying to the ancestors and the God. Byakaon comes from the root words baya and kaon. Baya means anything that is harmful to each ceremony of Yadnya, Pralingga, including that contained within oneself, which can then cause negative upheavals when thinking, speaking and behaving which originates from Ahamkara (Egoism). While the word Kaon means to eliminate. Banten Bayakaon has a meaning as a symbol to eliminate all forms of distress and all negative turmoil originating from Ahamkara. During the ceremony Banten Byakala is used to ask Sang Hyang Agni for strength so that all behavior is avoided from all things that are not good or are harmful.

Pura Griya Sakti is an important worship place and a forerunner to the history of the Manuaba Brahmans in Bali. The temple was founded by Pedanda Manuaba in the 17th century. Pedanda Manuaba is the grandson of Pedanda Sakti Wau Rauh (Pedanda Nirartha) who is considered to be the first brahman to have arrived in Bali from Java after the fall of the Majapahit Empire. The ancient temple was renovated in the late 1990s with new temple wall encircling the temple complex and the Wantilan - a Balinese pavilion, and a couple of new candi bentar, or split, gateways.
