Highlights

Meet at beautiful Dominion Park where your guides will lead the group through gearing up, introductions, and a safety overview.

We'll launch into the beautiful South Bay region of the Saint John River (traditionally referred to as the Wolastoq). The on water portions of the tour follow the highlights of our River Relics experience, giving you an overview of the history of Southeast New Brunswick. Photo opportunities abound, with stops to view pre-Cambrian fossils, a bald eagles nest, a 17th century lime quarry, and a 19th century lighthouse, not to mention the stunning scenery of the river at sunset.

We'll stop a a beach mid tour, where we'll gather around a bon-fire for some food, conversation, and storytelling. Sip locally foraged tea while baking your own traditional Bannock. Enjoy a locally sourced smoked sturgeon sampler and light seasonal appetizer platter.

The return paddle, with any luck, will be on calm waters by the light of the moon and stars. Magical!

Itinerary

  • Dominion Park Beach

    30 minsAdmission Ticket Free
Located on Saint John’s west side, Dominion Park is a popular year-round recreation destination. In summer, the stretch of sandy beach provides ideal access to the beautiful Saint John River for swimmers and boaters. Dominion park is the staging area for our tour. We'll meet here to get geared up and to go over safety and instruction before setting out into the river and will return back to Dominion park beach at the end of the tour.
  • Saint John River

1 hours 30 minsAdmission Ticket Free
A snapshot of what this 418 mi (673km) river has to offer. Our kayak tour takes place in South Bay, where we explore natural and historic sites near the terminus of the "Rhine of North America," the Saint John River. A region where salt and fresh water meet, just upstream from the impressive reversing rapids, creating a unique and vibrant ecosystem Wildlife abounds, an active bald eagle nest, jumping sturgeon, great blue heron, and if you're lucky even the occasionally a harbour seal.
  • Stonehammer UNESCO Global Geopark

    10 minsAdmission Ticket Free
Only accessible from the river, you'll paddle up to the first pre-Cambrian fossils recorded in scientific literature. Now part of North America's first UNESCO Global Geopark, learn about the rich geology history of Southeast New Brunswick, and how that history shaped the landscape and continues to influence the flow of the "Rhine of North America"
  • Green Head Cove

    40 minsAdmission Ticket Free
The site of a lime quarry likely dating back to the 17th century, Greenhead Cove is favourite stop along our tour. The site features the remains of the quarry, kiln foundations, and wharf timbers all visible from water level. A great location for a photo-op, the often protected cove is a chance to get that selfie you've been waiting for! Choose between a background of limestone cliffs, forested hills and a small beach, or Grand Bay, the roughly 16 square mile (20 sq km) confluence of the Saint John and Kennebecasis Rivers. Greenhead is also the planned staging area for our Sunset Bon-Fires and snacks (weather dependent), where we can relax on the beach next to the cove and enjoy some snacks and conversation.
  • Swift Point (Green Head) Lighthouse

    5 minsAdmission Ticket Free
When weather allows, a quick out-and-back to the Swift Point lighthouse is a pleasant add on to our kayak tours. Swift Point Light was one of six beacons erected in 1869 along the Saint John River between Fredericton and Saint John. Strategically positioned to guide vessels along the Saint John River and locate the narrow entrance to the gorge that leads to the Reversing Rapids, if you arrive at specific times during the tide cycle you'll get to experience first hand how aptly named the Light House was, as the currents here start to show the impact of the massive tidal flows of the Bay of Fundy.
