This is an area of the Wild Atlantic Way that is not know to many people but is spectacularly beautiful. From hidden rock pools to amazing vistas and wildlife, the Toe Head peninsula is simply amazing.
Itinerary
Toe Head Coast Guard Station
We will hike about 7km at a pace that is very easy and fun for hikers of all abilities with lots of short stops for photos and stories.
We will pass by loads small named features with great history and super stories. Our hike includes a deserted famine village and the Móin Rua heathland famous for it's wild orchids.
You will also see the spectacular Cnoc na nGabhar mountain, explore secret trails along the Wild Atlantic Way, visit one of the famous EIRE signs and an amazing Iron Age promontory fort with a secret know only to locals.
When we return, we'll end our time together on Tráigh Liceach a beach that is also a battlefield where we share a couple of fascinating stories about the Battle of Tráigh Liceach and WWI submarine activity around this coastline.
