Learn how to bake a traditional Karaite Pastry with meat called Kibin in the old capital of Grand Duchy of Lithuania
Itinerary
Trakai
Kibinas is the favorite, most widespread and most loved Karaite dish in Lithuania. The Karaites themselves call it "kybyn". Traditionally, it is a half-moon-shaped pie of yeast dough with a lamb or beef filling. The pie thus stuffed is baked in the oven on a baking sheet.
The Karaim of Kitada used to bake kibini every Friday. Now this patty is often a dish on the festive table.
Lithuania must be grateful to Grand Duke Vytautas for the extremely popular kibins. It was he who brought the Karaims to Lithuania 600 years ago, and they brought their traditional pastries which we can enjoy today.
This activity is suitable for both children and adults. During this class you will participate in the traditional process of making kibins. It is a great opportunity to get to know the history of Lithuania, learn how to form kibins correctly and have a delicious meal all-in-one!
The education-tasting price includes 2 kibins with pork, natural chicken broth, apple-cumin drink. One of the kibins will be the one you made yourself and you will get one by the restaurant too to try and compare!
