Highlights

El Mirador is a breathtakingly beautiful city with massive buildings. This city precedes others like Tikal by a couple of centuries. El Mirador was discovered less than 100 years ago, and they are still exploring and excavating, it is believed that there are more than 200 small cities around El Mirador that used to be like the suburbs.

Without a doubt, there is much to explore and much to know. A 5-day, 4-night tour sounds a bit challenging, but you will enjoy every step of this tour. The road is flat, and we will walk between 5 to 6 hours a day making stops to rest and eat a snack every two hours. During this adventure, you will visit 3 Mayan cities in total: El Tintal, La Muerta, and El Mirador.

Your visit will also contribute to the Carmelita community. The team that will accompany you throughout the tour is part of a community cooperative, and the proceeds directly help the entire neighborhood. Please note that you will need to make your reservation with 5 days of anticipation.

Itinerary

Getting To El Tintal Archeological Site
  • Flores

    4 hoursAdmission Ticket Free
This tour will start very early in the morning, at 4:30 am. We will pick you up in the lobby of your hotel in Flores or Santa Elena in the Peten department, and we will go to the community called Carmelita, north of Petén. The road is unpaved, and it will take us approximately 3 and a half hours to arrive. Relax, enjoy the road, and rest while we get there. If you don't want to get up early, we recommend staying at the Carmelita Hotel. Please note that this trekking experience is offered in Spanish only, as the tour guides are local from the Carmelita indigenous community of the area that will be visited. If you need an English-speaking translator, please send us an email to coordinate that service for you at an extra expense.
