What is the JR Pass?
The Japan Rail Pass (JR Pass) is your gateway to seamless travel across Japan. This all-in-one ticket grants you unlimited rides on Japan Rail National trains and shinkansen (bullet trains). You'll also get unlimited rides on select JR buses and ferries and airport transfers.
There are two types of JR Passes - the Whole Japan pass and regional passes.

Ordinary Car VS Green Car
Green cars, also known as first-class cars, provide a more luxurious and spacious travel experience compared to ordinary cars. Passengers in green cars enjoy features like larger and more comfortable seats, extra legroom, and enhanced amenities.
Ordinary cars are still comfortable and convenient, but green cars offer extra comfort and service for a premium travel experience.
Eligibility
The JR Pass is only applicable for a "Temporary Visitor" staying in Japan for less than 3 months.
The Japan Rail pass is for tourists and non-Japanese nationals, not including those on work or military-related visits.

How to use the JR Pass
To activate your Japan Rail Pass, just go to any JR office. You'll find these at most Japanese Airports, such as Narita and Haneda. JR offices are also located at all the main train stations across Japan.
Pass Activation
Show your passport.
Present your Temporary visitor stamp/sticker to the JR staff.
Bring out your Japan Rail voucher (exchange order).
The staff will verify your personal data.
Select the activation date of your pass. This can be up to 30 days from your selected exchange date.
Your JR Pass is now activated! You can now access all JR trains, buses, and ferry services.
Note: Regulations in Japan are very strict. You must visit the JR office in person to activate your pass. You cannot do this for your friends and family. Each traveller's identify has to be verified in person.
Seat Reservation
It's not a must, but reserving a seat is recommended for:
Long distance travelling.
Group travellers.
Travelling during peak hours.
Reserve a seat for oversized baggage when:
Travelling on the Tokaido/Sanyo/Kyushu Shinkansen.
Your luggage is larger than 160 cm in total length + width + height.
You can reserve an ordinary seat and store your luggage overhead if your luggage is under the size limit.

Access the Official JR Pass Timetable: Visit the official website of Japan Railways (JR). Use their dedicated mobile app to access the JR Pass timetables. You'll also find detailed information on train schedules and routes.
Choose the Departure and Arrival Stations: Identify the departure station and the station you wish to arrive at. Ensure that both stations are covered by the JR Pass.
Check the Train Type: Determine the type of train you want to take. Choose from the Shinkansen (bullet train), express trains, or local trains. Different trains have varying travel times and frequency, so choose the one that suits your preferences and itinerary.
Find the Arrival and Departure Times: Remember the arrival or departure times of the train you want to catch. Look out for specific notes and symbols that will tell you about the train's frequency or limited availability.
Check for Transfers: If your journey involves transfers between trains, note the transfer stations and the estimated transfer times. Plan your transfers accordingly to spend less time waiting.
Special Train Services: Keep an eye out for special train services like limited express or rapid trains. These may have different fare rules or require additional charges.
Flexibility is key: Timetables are a helpful guide, but train schedules can sometimes change without warning. Always double-check the timetables closer to your travel dates for any updates.
When to Book Your Pass
Book your JR Pass on Pelago at least 2 weeks before you arrive in Japan.
Receive your physical Exchange Order in just 3-5 working days for deliveries in Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei. Other global deliveries will take 7-10 working days.
However, do not purchase your JR Pass too early before your Japan trip. The validity of the Exchange Order is only 3 months.
