The name originated from the trade with horses, spices and frankincense which made Mirbat an important trading port. Even today, magnificent trading houses remind us of the wealth of that time. The fortress of Mirbat was built in the 18th century and is unfortunately not open to tourists, but you have an impressive view from the hill on which the castle stands.
