Highlights
Birding with one of the Mello Brothers is usually a unique experience. Authors of 2 books (field guides) about Brazilian birds, Daniel and Gabriel Mello are birders since 2007 and have all the necessary skills to identify the Atlantic Forest birds in the field, either by their voices or appearance. In addition, all these years in the field also gave them experience to understand the behavior of the species that occur in the region, which facilitates in the moment of attracting these birds for visual contemplation or amateur/professional bird photography. The Serra dos Órgãos national park is the third oldest national park in Brazil and has a biodiversity that many countries would envy. Within the limits of the Park, more than 400 species of birds have been cataloged and even on a single day tour it is possible to observe many of them.

3 hoursAdmission Ticket FreeSerra dos Orgaos National Park (Guapimirim headquarters - 350 m above the sea level) is the first place to be visited on this tour. Here the birding will be done on the main roads and trails of the park, but relatively close to the parking area. Typical species of submontane forests can be observed, such as Green-headed Tanager, Red-necked Tanager, Brazilian Grosbeak, Rufous-capped Motmot, Saw-billed Hermit, Spot-billed Toucanet, Yellow-throated Woodpecker and other.Parque Nacional da Serra dos Orgaos
2 hours 30 minsAdmission Ticket FreeThe second place to be visited is the Teresopolis headquarters of the Serra dos Orgaos National Park (approx. 1,000 m above the sea level). Here the birding will be done at some spots along the main road, going up by car from the entrance to the highest part of the park and stopping to bird in each one of these spots. Typical species of montane forests and native bamboo forests can be observed, such as Brassy-breasted Tanager, White-browed Warbler, Black-goggled Tanager, Pin-tailed Manakin, Scale-throated Hermit, White-browed Foliage-gleaner and other.INEA - Subsede Vale da Revolta - Parque Estadual dos Três Picos
3 hoursAdmission Ticket FreeThe Tres Picos State Park (Vale da Revolta headquarters - 1,000 m above sea level) is the last place to be visited on the tour. Here, birding will be done walking along the main road of the Park, which is completely flat. Species from montane forests and semi-open areas can be observed, such as Spix's Spinetail, Surucua Trogon, Bare-throated Bellbird (in the Spring and Summer), Pallid Spinetail, Yellow-legged Thrush, Hooded Berryeater and other.
