Cam Thanh Village, also known as the Bay Mau Coconut Forest, is an 84-hectare coconut grove strategically grown to protect the village against sea waves. Enjoy a peaceful ride along the waterways lined with coconut trees in a traditional basket boat made from strips of bamboo, then coated in waterproof resin from coconut oil, tar, or fibreglass. The journey also features cultural performances that add to the overall experience of the area.
I like how enthu and engaging the rower was. Having known that we are a family of 5 in 3 basket, they sticked close to each other to allow family members to help with photo taking and videography. However, something bothers me is the fact that the rower kept prying where we are from. I was seated alone in the basket with the rower and he kept repeating boleh. not a big deal but if it lasted for a short while, i would have deemed it as engaging. but throughout the whole ride at any slight opportunity, they will inform other basket boat performers and singer on water, i feel uneasy. and with my citizenship, it dawned to me that i am suppose to tips them on my exchange because they mentioned "wow good, rich country, rich people"
The basket boat ride through coconut groves was great fun. Not sure that the Gangham Style boat dancing and Karaoke boats are traditionally Vietnamese, but the enthusiasm and goodwill from boatmen was authentic. Only four stars because transport from Hoi A was not provided, and getting a taxi back without internet and a Grab account may be tricky.
