5 Experiences in Perth

Perth is one of the most isolated cities in the world. To reach the east coast, you first have to cross the longest straight road on the planet in the form of the flat, dry, limestone-laden Nullarbor Plain.

Yes, the wilderness is all around. And the great outdoors should most definitely be explored. But that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying the city’s best sights and sounds if you only care to stick around. Here are some of the best ways you can do so:

Roam around the backstreets of Perth

Perth has a rich culture. And to get a taste of what the city has to offer, make a beeline for its arcades and laneways. The best way to do that is to join a walking tour and feast your eyes on the thriving art scene. Hop around trendy spots while uncovering hidden gems in and around the central business district. You’ll come across attractions like the Bell Tower, Elizabeth Quay, and Yagan Square before ending your day at a local pub.

Take a deep dive into the ocean’s wonders

Nature is wonderful. Nature is breath-taking. And eye-opening too. It’s all too easy to forget that nature will leave icky, sticky, and dirty with your fair share of bugs. To connect with nature but in a clean, urban manner, head over to the Aquarium of Western Australia (AQWA). Here, you can experience an exciting marine journey and visit one of the world’s largest living coral reef exhibits. You can also check out sharks, stingrays, and giant sea turtles. And if you don’t mind getting soaking wet, you can even snorkel alongside them as well.

Free-fall in style over sprawling Perth

Who says that fun city activities have to take place in the city? What about above it? Surely, that counts. In any case, a pretty little spot like Perth deserves your A-game daredevil-like courage. Your reward will be a head rush like no other as you free-fall from 14,000 feet in the sky with your arms flapping and your eyes bulging. Glide towards incredible views of Rottnest Island and the sparkling Western Australian coastline before landing right smack in the middle of gorgeous Langley Park for an experience of a lifetime to remember.

Conquer the towering Matagarup Bridge

The Matagarup Bridge is one of those structures that find a new lease of life. Originally not built for climbing, you can now scale to the top of the bridge by trekking 314 steps at a 45-degree angle. How you’ll do that is to shimmy and slide your way past the beams and make your way to the SkyView Deck, an open-air glass-bottom viewing platform that gives you stunning views of the picturesque Swan River. And the best part of all? You can zipline down to the eastern banks of the river from 400-metres high in the sky!
