Elafonisi in southwest of Crete is famous for its pink sand and low turquoise waters. Repeatedly this beach has been chosen to be among the world’s most beautiful. The pink sand is produced by the large amount of pink shells that get ground up by the sea. The area is a part of the European Natura 2000 protecting program. The water is generally quite shallow and safe for children. .For a most conferrable journey to/from Rethymno we make some stops.Agia Sophia Cave is a place of archaeological, geological and historical interest. The small church of Agia Sophia lays at the entrance to the cave that contains many rows of massive stalactites and stalagmites. In the traditional Cretan mountain village Elos, you’ll find the largest number of chestnuts trees on the island. During the stops it will be possible to buy something to drink and eat. Enjoy the ride through the lush Cretan landscape and a day in crystal clear waters by the exotic sandy beach of Elafonisi.
