Ulaanbaatar is a city of contrast where modern life comfortably blends with Mongolian traditional lifestyle Our first visit is the Gandan Monastery – the biggest Buddhist center of Mongolia and features a 26-meter-high majestic gilded statue of Migjid Janraisig Next visit, National Museum of Mongolia – this museum presents Mongolian history and culture from prehistoric times to the present day. Continue to visit Sukhbaatar square and Parliament House displayed with Great Khans memorial statue. The square lies at the heart of the city surrounded by theaters, government buildings. After lunch, we will explore the Zaisan Hill, which is a memorial for WW2, located in the south side of UB with a great view over the city Following to visit Bogd Khan Palace Museum – this complex was a residence of the last king of Mongolia in the 19th century, now turned into a museum. The architecture and exterior are not very impressive. Afterward, we will go to see “Wonders of Mongolia” folklore show by famous Tumen-Ekh ensemble – is one of the most successful folk-art groups to share traditional Mongolian music with the world, having traveled to over 40 countries. End of the performance, transfer to the hotel.

Baga Gazriin Chuluu is a fascinating granite rock formation in the middle of the dusty plain. The highest peak 1706 meters above sea level. The rocky mountains are spread out from west to east covering about 30 kilometers.

Tsagaan Suvarga is an arduous scarp in Olziit soum of Dundgovi province. Once a floor of the ocean, this scarp looks like a white stupa, hence the name Tsagaan Suvarga (White Stupa). This scarp is 400 meters long and 60 meters tall with a 90-degree brink. After a rain, the water pouring down the scarp makes it look like a huge waterfall. There’s an interesting cave 7 km to the east of Tsagaan Suvarga named Hevtee Bosoo Agui. In this 50 meters long cave, you have to crawl at some point but will be able to walk normally in other parts of the cave, hence the name Hevtee Bosoo Agui (Laying Standing Cave).

Yol valley (Eagle or Vulture valley) situated in “Three beauties of Gobi” Mt. National Park. This valley is originally established to conserve birdlife in the region. But it’s now more famous for its dramatic scenery in the middle of the Gobi Desert with a meter’s thick ice almost all year round, except late summer.

Khongor dunes are one of the most scenic areas of Gobi. The dunes rise abruptly from the plain, in some places reaching a height of 300 meters, and extend over an area between 2-12 km in width and 180 km in length.

To get to the central region of Mongolia from the Gobi region we have to drive about 600 km and it takes a 2-day drive. On these 2 days, we will explore the nomadic culture and to understand the way of living with nature. During the trip to the Khuisiin Naiman lakes (Navel 8 lakes), we will visit some nomadic families to learn more about nomadic life and customs. We recommend that if you visit a nomad family that you give sweets to the children. The children in the countryside love sweets because most of the next store is very far away and the section is not big.

A must-see place for those who want to walk the trails of the Mongolian Empire’s glory and fall, is The area of Naiman Nuur, ”Eight lakes”, formed behind the volcanic eruptions that occurred all along the centuries. The park is 2400 meters above the sea level. An area of 11.500 hectares has been protected as a National Park since 1992. These lakes are connected by underground channels. We will rest for 1 day to explore this beautiful National Park.

On this day we will drive from 8 lakes to Orkhon valley. The road is challenging off-road.

Chinggis khan’s choice of Karakorum as the capital of the Mongol Empire was no coincidence. The surrounding Orkhon Valley was the center of preceding nomadic empires for centuries and had enormous symbolic importance. The valley had attracted humankind since Paleolithic times some 750,000 years ago. Therefore Orkhon valley is one of the world’s most important cultural regions and recognized as a “Cultural Landscape” of the UNESCO World Heritage in 2004. You will witness unique lifestyle, culture, and rare historical memorials.

Karakoram was once the capital of the Mongolia Empire, which was the largest contiguous empire in World history, consisted of much of Asia and parts of Eastern Europe. In 1220, Karakorum was founded by Genghis Khan in the Orkhon valley, at the crossroads of the Silk Road. The city flourished with wealth and culture, especially as artists and intellectuals were brought over from Europe to enhance the Eurasian capital. Also, we will visit the magnificent and the oldest Buddhist Monastery complex of Erdene Zuu, built in the 16th century, with 108 stupas. The monastery is still active, and there are temple museums and buildings where monks live and pray.

This area is home to the Mongolian wild horse known as Perzevalski horse (takhi) with a unique landscape that features mountain and steppe. In the early evening, we will take short drive and hiking to see the horses in their natural habitat. Seeing these truly wild horses which numbered in the hundreds of thousands of years ago, will make you feel like you have traveled thousands of years back in time. There is a great opportunity to take a photo of these endangered horses. If you are lucky, you can see fox, deer, roe deer, eagle, and more animals and birds…

On this day we have to stay up a little earlier than usual because we have a better chance to see the wild horses when they come to drink water in the morning. If we can see the horses late afternoon after arrival in Khustai National Park we do not need to stay up early morning.
