[Arashiyama Hozu River Boat Ride]
The Hozu River originates from the Tamba Highlands in the central area of
Kyoto Prefecture and surrounds the mountains of Kyoto to Kameoka, then crosses
a 16km mountain canyon, and finally flows into the Yodo River through the Kamo
River. Local professional boatmen use slender bamboo poles, rudders and oars
to control the direction of the boat, and let the boat slide freely among the
rocks through skilled boating skills. There are usually three boatmen in
charge of steering the boat, but depending on the wind direction and water
level of the day, it may take four to five boatmen to maneuver the boat.
Be amazed by the natural beauty of the Hozu River Valley during each of the
four seasons: cherry blossoms in spring, azalea shrubs growing in between
rocks during summer, vivid crimson leaves and mountain scenery during autumn,
and the valley blanketed in snow during winter. In winter, the boats are lined
with heated tatami to stay warm. The Hozu River is long and ever-changing,
winding its way around huge rock formations that make the views unparalleled.
Hozugawa River Boat Ride (Hozugawa Kudari)
JPY 6,000
It was exhilarating and the boatmen were skilful and delightful while interacting with the guests on board. Couldn’t recommend enough to both the young and old.
You have to do this activity. Catch the romantic Sagan train to Kameoka and then take this magnificent relaxing and interesting busy ride. The 3 man crew made it a pleasure with a mix of Japanese and English. Scenery is so interesting and the rapids make for a fun day
Good experience, guided tour mainly with Japanese but did not impact too much
good experience, easy ticket redemption boats leave when the required capacity is filled up
