What Animals Can You See At Zoo Negara?

To make the most of your visit to Malaysia's Zoo Negara, it is best to follow the Negara zoo map that shows all the different sections and enclosures and the various routes that can take you to each one of those.

However, here's a map-based itinerary should you wish for some help.

But feel free to explore the zoo as you wish and you need not follow the same order of sections as you go walk around.

Hornbill Centre

Out of Malaysia's ten hornbill species, seven call the Hornbill Centre their home. Established in 2010, this centre focuses on breeding four specific hornbill species.

It is conveniently located near Entrance A by the lake (check the Zoo Negara Malaysia map), and is a must-visit for any bird enthusiast.

Cat Walk Exhibit

A short distance from the Hornbill Centre awaits a wonder - the Cat Walk Exhibit.

Here, tigers, African lions, and cheetahs prowl in enclosures that transport you quickly to their natural world. Witness these magical big cats as they cool off with a swim or sprawl luxuriously in the sun.

Giant Panda Conservation Centre

Are you ready to meet the real stars of Zoo Negara? They are Xing Xing and Liang Liang, the giant pandas! Housed in the Giant Panda Conservation Centre, these adorable creatures were a gift of friendship from China in 2014.

And the panda family has grown since then! Xing Xing and Liang Liang have had three cubs, with one, the lucky Sheng Yi, still residing with their parents. To say hello to these beautiful creatures, head to the Cat Walk Exhibit and then turn left. Follow the path up, and you'll be on your way to experiencing these remarkable animals!

Ape Centre

This section houses both African chimpanzees and two orangutan species - the Bornean and Sumatran orangutans. Did you know that these fascinating creatures share a whopping 98.8% of their DNA with us humans? Watch their behaviour - you might even see them shaking hands or playfully arguing, just like us!

The Ape Centre is conveniently located right next to the Giant Panda Conservation Centre, so you can easily swing by and see these incredible primates after visiting the pandas.

Reptile House

The zoo's Reptile House is home to estuarine crocodiles, masters of camouflage who like to blend in with their surroundings. Check if you can spy them basking in their habitat?

But the thrills don't stop there! This fascinating area showcases a variety of other reptiles, including the enormous reticulated python, the powerful green anaconda, and the Aldabran Tortoise - the world's champion of tortoises! Finding the Reptile House is easy too. Simply head south from the Ape Centre, and get ready to be amazed by these incredible creatures.

Penguin Enclosure

Calling all penguin fans! Meet the adorable residents of the Zoo Negara Penguin Enclosure - eight Humboldt penguins who made a long journey from the Czech Republic Zoo! Hailing from South America, these playful creatures nestle on islands and rocky coasts in the wild.

Head to the Penguin Enclosure, located to the right of Children's World near Entrance B, and watch them glide gracefully through the water during their daily feeding at 11:00 am.

Multi Animal Show

For a grand finale to your zoo adventure, make sure you catch the Multi Animal Show at Zoo Negara!
