Manly Beach and secret Sydney Harbour sightseeing tour

This half day allows us to see some of Sydney's best beaches, Sydney Harbour and Barangaroo Reserve. We start at Bradleys Head and do a short bushwalk to some military relics with an interesting history. At Georges Heights we will see the Gunners Barracks and sweeping views of the harbour. We then head to popular Balmoral Beach for a stroll on the boardwalk and at Manly Beach a highlight is a walk via an aquatic reserve to pretty Shelley Beach. It is time for a nutritious lunch followed by a stop at North Head to enjoy the bush setting of the Sydney Harbour National Park and some outstanding views. We will then peruse several beaches to the north of Manly and on the way home we visit the new urban renewal project, Barangaroo Reserve. The day is flexible and we can talk about a few variations on the day. This tour is for your group only, includes a nutritious lunch and you will picked up from and returned to your hotel. It includes four short walks of around 15 – 20 minutes each.

30 minsAdmission Ticket FreeAt Georges Head we gain a panoramic view of Sydney Harbour from the harbour entrance right through to the city and Harbour bridge. Due to its strategic positioning Georges Heights was fortified to protect Sydney from invasion. Defence was always on the mind of the British right back to the First Fleet days as the French left Botany Bay on the day the First Fleet sailed into Sydney Harbour (1788). In 1839 a squadron of US Navy ships caused some consternation when they made an unannounced visit to Sydney Harbour under the cover of darkness. In the early 1870s a Russian scare was caused by numerous visits from Russian naval vessels on 'training expeditions'. As a consequence Georges Heights was added to the list of places deemed fit to fortify Sydney harbour and canons were positioned in this area along with a barracks for the gunners operating the cannons.
