Bibai Snow Land or North Snow Land Chitose
Located near Sapporo City, Hokkaido, Snow Land transforms from a golf course
in the summer to a snowy paradise in the winter. Adults and children alike can
enjoy various snow activities like snowballing, snowman building, transparent
bubble ball, snow biking, and doughnut ski circles. Additional snow
activities, including mini snowmobiles, snowmobiles, four-wheel ATVs, and snow
boating, are also available at an extra cost.
Otaru Canal
Constructed in the 12th year of Taisho in Japan, the Otaru Canal spans 1140m
and is unique as the only canal built by reclamation rather than inland
excavation. Serving as a key element in the development of Hokkaido, it played
a vital role during Otaru's prosperity from the Meiji to Taisho years as a
gateway to the north. Alongside this symbol of the port's prosperity, the
canal is adorned with many old warehouses, evoking a nostalgic glimpse into
the past.
Wander and enjoy the street view of Otaru
Embark on a 10- to 15-minute walk straight from Sakaimachi to discover an area
adorned with nostalgic-style buildings from the Meiji, Taisho and early Showa
periods. Known as the "Wall Street of the North," this locale exudes a
nostalgic atmosphere. One of its representative stores is "Kitaichi Glass,"
utilizing a warehouse from Hokkaido's pioneering era as the storefront,
featuring areas like the Glass Pavilion and the Crystal Pavilion. Enjoy the
dark warehouse ambiance; the glass and crystal gleam, crafting a dreamlike
space. Sakaimachi also hosts intriguing specialty shops, including various
grocery stores and cafes housed in historical buildings.
Shiroi Koibito Park
As a well-known souvenir brand in Hokkaido, its factory is also a popular and
iconic attraction. Here, you can get a glimpse of the chocolate-making process
for Shiroi Koibito and learn about the history of chocolate. Additionally, you
can tour the factory's architecture and facilities, experiencing the rich
chocolate culture.
*Note: The cost for the internal tour of the Shiroi Koibito Factory is not included in this itinerary
Otaru Aquarium
Visit Japan's first aquarium consisting of two main areas: the main building
and the marine mammal park, where you can see "mouse dolphins". Inside, you'll
find over 250 species and more than 5,000 rare creatures, including the
world's largest North Pacific giant octopus, which measures over 5 meters in
length, and the glowing, swaying naked sea butterfly, as well as the northern
fulmar, designated as a near-threatened species. Must-see shows include
dolphin performances and seal feeding, along with the "Penguin Snow Walk,"
providing a fun experience for both adults and children.
