The Goethe House is the birthplace of Germany's most celebrated author and poet, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. It was transformed into a museum celebrating the life and works of the writer whose contribution to the country’s literature is so significant that he even loaned his name to the German Language Institute. Among Goethe’s finest works are "Götz von Berlichingen", "Faust" and "The Sorrows of Young Werther". Where today we find a museum, that was once the family residence of the Goethe family until 1795. After passing hands with a series of owners, it was rebuilt as a monument to the author by the geologist Otto Volger in 1863. The house was damaged during the Allied bombing of Frankfurt but was promptly restored after the war. The remarkable work of restoration allows visitors to admire an authentic environment with the same architecture and decoration, with period furniture and paintings, in which Goethe spent his youth. If you are a fan of literature, this museum is a must-see.
