-About the Spots-


  • Sasebo Heavy Industries (aka SSK)

    A shipbuilding company that took over the facilities of the Sasebo Naval
    Arsenal of the former Imperial Japanese Navy. Many of the old facilities still
    stand: docks, cranes, a machinery factory, the former mould loft, and more. A
    250-ton crane (a giant cantilever crane) that is a component property
    designated as a Cultural Heritage is also visible. It is an extremely rare
    crane that was imported from the UK in 1913 is still in use today.


  • Kogo Zaki

    Kogo Zaki is a cape at the only entrance to Sasebo Port that is just 900
    meters wide. Sasebo was chosen to be one of Japan's four naval districts
    during the Meiji Period because the port, with the naval facilities and ships,
    could not be seen from the open sea. Kogo Zaki remains the port's only
    entrance to this day.


  • Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF)

    JMSDF vessels are docked at Tategami Wharf and Kurashima Wharf. Various
    vessels, such as Aegis ships and minesweepers, are also moored in the port.
