Highlights

Our half-day excursion to Magdalena Island invites you to admire a spectacle created by nature: an abundant birdlife, composed mainly of Penguins, Cormorants, and Seagulls, among other species.

We will navigate through the Strait of Magellan until we reach Magdalena Island, home of the penguins that during the months of October and March prepare to migrate north.

Do not miss the opportunity to witness their habits and learn more about these incredible birds, walking a few meters from their nests. It will be an unforgettable experience!

Itinerary

  • Bus-Sur

We will head towards Punta Arenas pier and start our sailing at 7:30 am. There we will embark to travel to Isla Magdalena. During navigation, we can enjoy beautiful panoramic views. We can see fishermen's coves, oil fields, and the mythical Island of Tierra del Fuego. We can also see different species that make up the local birdlife. Also, with a little luck, we can see southern dolphins near our boat. We will dock at Isla Magdalena after sailing for two hours, arriving at the Los Pingüinos Natural Monument. Here we will be exploring the place where more than 120,000 Magellanic penguins live together with various species of birds and sea lions. We will go up the paths that go from the coast to the highest part of the island, being able to see a few meters to these birds and their nests. The penguins arrive in this sector in mid-October and begin their reproduction, nesting, and change of feathers, ready to migrate north in mid-March. In this sector is the Center for Environmental Interpretation and Faro. Going up the steep stairs of the center we can get the most incredible view of Magdalena Island.
