Introduction
Join us for the ultimate Kakadu National Park overnight experience including a
cruise with local aboriginal people, ancient rock art sites, local wildlife
and stunning scenery.
Surrounded by the most diverse wetlands, rugged landscapes and unique wildlife
in the Top End, you will jump head first into seeing this World-Heritage
natural habitat up-close.
As home to the longest continually surviving cultures in the world, it’s
paramount our Kakadu tours ensure you meet the modern-day traditional owners
of Kakadu National Park. You will hear their stories of creation, feel their
love for the country and understand some of the issues still faced today.
Not only will you learn about the environment, history and culture of Kakadu
National Park, but you will also see some of the best sights in the park and
surrounding land. Our multi-day adventure also includes Fogg
Dam,
East Alligator River, Nawurlanja, Nourlangie, Anbanbang Billabong, Warradjan
Culture Centre and a stunning scenic flight to truly appreciate the wild
scenery.
Ethical Adventures keep the tours to a maximum of 8 guests so we can travel
this ancient land responsibly. A small group allows you to be immersed into the
culture, community and way of life whilst having a minimal environmental
impact. Our Kakadu tours are hosted by a qualified eco and local guide and
always connect with community groups, Aboriginal-owned businesses and guided
tours.
This is like no other Kakadu tour. Colours of Kakadu is the way we connect.
Itinerary Overview
DAY 1
An early morning start on the guided tour gets us out to greet the sunrise on
the dynamic Adelaide River floodplains.
Our first stop is the enigmatic Fogg Dam Conservation
Reserve,
home to a massive variety of birdlife, reptiles, mammals and more across
wetlands, floodplains, woodlands and monsoonal forests. We will enjoy
breakfast with the birds and coffee with the critters!
Moving on, our adventure takes us to the edge of Kakadu and Arnhem Land and
the award-winning Guluyambi Cultural Cruise for 90 minutes of wildlife
spotting, indigenous culture instructions and anecdotes from a local
aboriginal guide.
Bear in mind to keep your hands in the boat as this river has one of the
highest populations of estuarine crocodiles in the world.
Surviving this, enjoy lunch overlooking the infamous Cahills Crossing before
venturing to our hotel accommodation for the evening and a short break.
Freshen up, go for a swim in the pool or take a short nap … this is your time
to relax. Later in the evening, we meander down to Nawurlanja for a visual
treat as the setting sun explodes off the ancient Arnhem escarpment in shades
of ochre.
Returning to Jabiru for dinner at the in-house Chinese restaurant.
DAY 2
Up before the birds to explore Kakadu and all it has to offer! Our first
adventure stop is Cooinda where we join one of the best attractions; the
world-renowned sunrise Yellow Water Billabong cruise. This is the perfect
cruise to witness the wakening of wildlife on the Kakadu wetlands and learn
about the diverse ecosystem from the local guide.
Enjoy the full buffet breakfast at Cooinda Resort after the cruise before
spending some quality time in the comprehensive Warradjan Aboriginal cultural
centre.
Featuring stories, images, crafts, art and much more, Warradjan is a place to
cruise quietly and slowly. Absorb the knowledge and then sit down with female
elders and learn the craft of string making and weaving (seasonally
available).
Following this, we journey towards Anbangbang Billabong and Nourlangie. Both
Anbangbang and Nourlangie are significant areas of past and present and
environmental interaction for the local indigenous people. A wealth of
Ancient Aboriginal rock art adorning the sandstone massifs of Nourlangie
provides the perfect depiction of life through the ages for Australia’s first
peoples.
Following the walk enjoy lunch by Anbangbang Billabong before getting back to
Jabiru and your 30-minute scenic flight over the region. No better way to put
the stunning Kakadu National Park all in perspective than from 2000 ft!
Departing Jabiru around 3:30 pm, expect to be back in Darwin around 7 pm and
reflect on one of the best Kakadu tours!
