Your private driver will be waiting, holding a sign with your name clearly visible on it, in the Exit hall of Tianjin Xingang Port, the Arrivals hall at Beijing’s International Airport or in the lobby of your centrally located hotel in Beijing.

 

You’ll travel to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, where you’ll have about two hours to explore its sites, its Watch Towers and breathtaking scenery. The Mutianyu section of the wall is not only considered to be more diverse but one of the best preserved sections of the wall.

The Great Wall dates back to the Northern Qi Dynasty (550-557). Then again it was rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty (1368 -1644), to provide a protective defence barrier to guard the capital and the imperial mausoleums from invaders.

 

You can see 23 Watch Towers distributed along its more than 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) length. This stretch of the UNESCO listed Great Wall is known for its beautiful surroundings, including dense forests and rich pastures. You’ll have plenty of time to hike along the wall and enjoy the scenery. The ramparts and parapets provide many photographic vantage points.

 

On arrival to the Great Wall, your driver will purchase your entrance tickets and guide you to the entrance to the ramparts, and be waiting in the parking lot on your return.

 

While you can climb the ramparts by foot it’s highly recommended that to save time and energy you take the cable car ride or chair lift up to the ramparts. (The northern entrance cable car return takes you to Watch Tower #14, the chair lift up /toboggan ride down is located at Watch Tower # 6, known as the southern entrance.)  The fully inclusive tour, as the name suggests includes return tickets by cable car or the chair lift up/ toboggan ride down.

 

Should you require some refreshments after your descent, your driver will be happy to make some recommendations for you. (Please note these are at your own expense.)

 

The journey between Tianjin Cruise Port and the Mutianyu section of the wall is 2.5 - 3 hours, depending on traffic, so time for you to relax or should you desire, take a short nap. There are several service stations on the expressway, so if you need your driver to stop, to take a rest room break or stretch your legs, just ask. Your driver will have an elementary understanding of English so will be happy to assist you in making the journey a comfortable one. 

From Beijing International Airport your journey to the Great Wall is much shorter and usually takes about 75 mins. The journey from a centrally located hotel is typically 1.5 hours.

After your visit to the Great Wall, you’ll have the option of being dropped off at Beijing International Airport, Tianjin Cruise Port or a centrally located hotel in Beijing.
