The Whale Watching Activity is in the whale watching capital of the world: Húsavík. The activity lasts approximately 3 hours.
Litlaá, meaning "Little River," is located near the northern coast of Iceland. This is an unusual spot to find warm water, but thanks to a nearby geothermal active area, we get to enjoy snorkeling in water with a temperature of about 20°C.
The tour takes place in a lagoon called Brunnar, meaning "Wells." The lagoon's floor is full of mesmerizing dancing sands. The cold water erupting from the bottom causes these beautiful designs described as the "Bubbling Sands" that you must see with your own eyes.
Because of the warm water temperature, we also find fields of strange green algae, plants, multicolored sediments, and a countless number of snails.
In the shallow rocky area at the edges of the lagoon, we find countless numbers of sticklebacks traveling around in large groups.
Both locations are on the Diamond circle making it the perfect self-drive activity.
Itinerary
North Sailing - Húsavík Whale Watching
On this activity, you will go whale-watching in Húsavík and snorkel in the Spring Lagoon. This is a self-drive activity, and both locations are on the Diamond Circle. The Whale Watching Activity: You will join the Original Whale Watching activity in the town of Húsavík, which has sometimes been called the whale watching capital of the world. The whale-watching activity is approx. 3 hours The Snorkeling Activity: The Spring Lagoon is a 12–17°C river, as the geothermal activity keeps it at a nice warm temperature. The lagoon's floor is full of mesmerizing, dancing volcanic sands and multi-colored sediments. The heated water erupts from below the bottom causing beautiful designs and ripples in the riverbed while you drift along the surface above. Mixed in with the bubbling sands, you will see beautiful fields of green algae.
