・Bulguksa Temple
Bulguksa Temple is registered as a World Heritage Site. When talking about
Gyeongju, Bulguksa Temple is known as an indispensable tourist destination.
Bulguksa Temple is still a large-scale temple today, but it is said that in
its heyday in the 8th century, it boasted a magnificent scale with over 60
wooden buildings with a total of 2,000 rooms.
・Seokguram Grotto
Further up the mountain from Bulguksa Temple is Seokguram Grotto, a cultural
asset. It is said to be a representative work of Korean Buddhist art, and was
registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO together with Bulguksa Temple in
1995. The Buddha statues are magnificent, but the view of Gyeongju from
Seokguram Grotto is also spectacular.
・Ancient Tombs Park and Daeryuen (Heavenly Horse Tomb, Cheonmachon)
A group of ancient tombs suddenly appears next to the downtown area of
Gyeongju! This park is known as the largest group of ancient tombs in
Gyeongju, and 23 tombs are preserved on a site of about 120,000 tsubo. Among
them, you can visit Cheonmachong, which was excavated in 1973 and has its
interior open to the public.
