A complete Singapore Zoo itinerary for travellers

From white tigers to sea lions and animal shows to animal feeding sessions, there are many ways you can immerse yourself in this mini wildlife kingdom that calls the north of Singapore home.

Begin your wildlife adventure at the Singapore Zoo

First, settle all your navigational needs by getting the Singapore Zoo map at the entrance or other locations around the park. You can also scan a QR code to download the map on your phone.

Monkey around at the Primate Kingdom

One stop we highly recommend checking out first on your itinerary is the Primate Kingdom. You can check out incredible animals like the Cotton-top tamarin, Douc Langur, Black-and-white Ruffled Lemur, and the Colobus Monkey here.

Visit mighty elephants at Elephants of Asia

Afterwards, get to know the herd of elephants at the Singapore Zoo at Elephants of Asia, which features Burmese-style architecture and ample space for these gentle giants to roam. Fun fact: all the elephants at the Singapore Zoo are females. Click here for the elephant's feeding time schedule and for the feeding time slots of other animals as well.

Get a taste of Australia at the Australasia exhibit

Next, drop by Australasia to meet some of the most extraordinary animals you'll find, including most of the world's marsupials. Think of the eastern grey kangaroo, tree kangaroos, and wallabies. You can also catch a glimpse of the colourful but deadly cassowary.

Travel to the heart of Africa

The Singapore Zoo map has two distinct Africa-dedicated zones. One is The Great Rift of Ethiopia, which looks at Ethiopian wildlife and geology.

There's also Wild Africa, an introduction to the African plain. Take a stop at these two zones to see baboons, meerkats, rhinos, giraffes, lions, and zebras.

Explore the Fragile Forest

Following that, make your way over to the Fragile Forest, a teeming biodome home to wildlife from the earth's various equatorial rainforests. Here, play a game of "I spy with my little eye" to spot camouflaged amphibians and hidden invertebrates. Malayan flying foxes will also glide above your head, with two-toed sloths lazing the day away, and white-faced saki monkeys playing around.

Make a detour at the RepTopia

Slither your way into a reptilian paradise at RepTopia, a place that colourful and critically endangered reptiles and amphibians from over 60 species call home. Forget regular old lizards. Here, you'll find animals with rad names - the endangered electric blue gecko, the bearded dragon, the Amazon milk frog, the dyeing poison frog, the gaboon viper, and the green basilisk. To see the hard-to-breed komodo dragons, you've got to head over to Reptile Garden instead.

Let your little ones meet cute critters at Rainforest Kidzworld

Welcome to the cutest part of the zoo, Rainforest Kidzworld, a place dedicated to little ones on the Singapore Zoo map. It's the perfect spot for kids to meet adorable and cuddly animals while mum and dad take a breather. But what exactly makes it unique?

You can find Falabella, the world's smallest horse breed, while there are unique experiences for your little ones. There's the Goat Keeper Talk and the Animal Friends presentation, where kids can get up close with animals. However, if you're looking for the Splash Safari, that would be at River Wonders, a short stone's throw away from the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari.

End your trip with a visit to the free-ranging Orangutan Island

Last but not least, end your visit at the impressive free-ranging Orangutan Island, where you'll find the Sumatran Orangutan and the Bornean Orangutan, a main highlight on the Singapore Zoo map. And, you can even meet some of the Orangutans at Breakfast in the Wild, the Singapore Zoo’s signature breakfast program.

Other helpful tips for planning your trip like a pro:

How long is a zoo trip in Singapore?

How long you visit the zoo is entirely up to you, and how many exhibits you'd like to check out. Roughly, an entire day trip to the Singapore Zoo takes between five and seven hours. So, take that into consideration when planning your trip according to the Singapore Zoo map.

And depending on how you are as a traveller, that'll determine how long your visit is. For instance, do you rush through every exhibit at the museum? You might finish the Singapore Zoo faster than expected.

Or are you the sort that loves to take your time? Again, you might take a longer time to see everything. In any case, a safe bet is to follow the general flow and direction of the Singapore Zoo map.

What is the best time to visit the Singapore Zoo?

As a rule of thumb, stick to visiting on weekdays. Weekends, and especially public holidays, can be crazy crowded, and you'll probably be battling it out with the thronging crowds for good photo spots and for space to walk around.

Timing-wise, it depends on you as a visitor. If you're an early bird, some benefits of visiting in the early morning are ideal, as many animals are more active during these times. Late afternoon is also an excellent time to visit as that's when Singapore's unforgiving sun cools down, making walking around a little more comfortable.

Is the Singapore Zoo worth visiting?

Whether you're a local that's been to the zoo multiple times or a first-time traveller, the Singapore Zoo is worth making the time for.

First, the Singapore Zoo's unique open-concept exhibits are impressive for both animals and visitors. Plus, they mimic the natural environments for the animals that call the zoo home as closely as possible.

In terms of wildlife diversity, the Singapore Zoo is world-class. You can find over 300 exotic species of animals here, many of which are rare and endangered. From time to time, you can even check out excellent experiences like Breakfast in the Wild, where you can have a meal and hang out with adorable animal residents and their keepers.
