    It was designated as a historic site in 1963. It was also called Bukgung because it was located in the north of the capital. It was founded according to the construction of the Joseon Dynasty and was initially used as a royal palace, but after being burned down during the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, it remained in ruins for a long time, but was rebuilt during King Gojong's reign in the late Joseon Dynasty and used as a palace for a while.

The houses built at this time were Myeongjeongjeon, Munjeongjeon, Sunyeongjeon, Environmentaljeon, Gyeongchunjeon, Inyangjeon, Tongmyeongjeon, Yanghwadang, Yeohwidang, and Saseonggak. The pavilion was named by Seo Geo-jeong, and the Sangnyangmun Gate of Myeongjeongjeon Hall, which is a power station, was named by Kim Jong-jik.

    Deoksugung Palace was first the site of Prince Wolsan's house, but was used as a temporary residence for his ancestors after the Imjin War and was called Jeongneung-dong Haenggung Palace, but was renamed Gyeongunggung Palace during the reign of Gwanghaegun. Later, in 1907, King Gojong, who abdicated to King Sunjong, stayed here, and it was changed to Deoksugung Palace to pray for King Gojong's longevity.
