Highlights

Travel back in history to the famous bridge over the River Kwai. Witness the historic river's poignancy, a focal point of many films and books. Near the town of Kanchanaburi, visit two well-kept cemeteries. These are the graves of fallen soldiers who died constructing the Death Railway.

Kanchanaburi town, 130 km west of Bangkok, is an exceptionally beautiful area. You'll find deep jungles and meandering rivers that snake through an idyllic landscape, framed by rugged mountains. Although the bridge is the most frequented tourist draw, the wider Kanchanaburi province is also worth exploring for its spectacular scenery. Enjoy a Thai set lunch at a local restaurant before heading back to Bangkok.

Itinerary

  • Hotel Pick-up (6:00AM)

Meet your guide and driver at your hotel lobby.
  • Drive to Kanchanaburi

The road westwards to downtown Kanchanaburi is where the city skyline slowly disappears and gives way to a more suburban and rural side of Thailand.
  • War Cemetery

Pay respects to the Prisoners-of-War at the Allied Cemetery who perished during the construction of the Death Railway.
  • Burma Railway Centre

This interactive museum has an information and research facility dedicated to presenting the history of the Thailand-Burma Railway through eight themed galleries.
  • Bridge over the River Kwai

A short boat trip takes you to the foot of the famous Bridge over the River Kwai. Still in use today, the bridge was the target of frequent Allied bombing raids during 1945 and was rebuilt after the war ended.
  • Train Ride

Board a local train over the original parts of the famous Death Railway. This train ride offers both scenic and surreal experiences of what once was a region of war camps, controlled by the Japanese.
  • Lunch

A local Thai set lunch is served at a local restaurant.
  • End of Tour (5:00PM)

Head back to Bangkok and return to your hotel.
  • Itinerary details are for reference only and may be subject to change depending on the weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

Overall is a great tour. The train ride was amazing. Given this tour a 4 stars because the itinerary mentioned there is a boat ride but actually it wasn't included in the package. Do take note if anyone wanted the boat ride, this package doesn't provide it. Felt that I had paid for it but service wasn't provided.

Great tour, lots of info given and not pushy at all. journey between places are long with various breaks in-between so please take note if you can't stand that.

Good experience to visit 'Death Railway' and to walk over the bridge. Visit to the cemetery was moving, and the museum was very informative. We did not go under the bridge in a boat as per the trip description. I think the train trip should include going over the bridge. I am glad I did the trip
