Discover the haunting history of the Small Fortress at Terezin, which served as the prison of the Prague Gestapo from 1940 to 1945. Located 90 miles north of Prague, this town was renamed Theresienstadt by the Nazis and became a site of persecution for the Czech nation. It also served as a transport point to camps in the east.

In 1941, approximately 1,300 Jewish men were sent to Theresienstadt to transform the garrison town into a concentration camp capable of holding up to 60,000 prisoners. The Aufbaukommando, also known as AK1 and AK2, undertook this harrowing task. In 1994, a new permanent exhibition was opened at the Small Fortress, dedicated to the history of the political prison.
