- Facility Introduction -
At the Takayama Festival Yatai Kaikan Hall in the grounds of Sakurayama
Hachiman Shrine, 11 authentic Yatai (nationally designated Important Tangible
Cultural Properties) that will be pulled at the Autumn Takayama Festival
(October 9th and 10th) are exhibited and changed three times a year.
Every year in March, July, and November, the four floats are rotated and
displayed together with the permanently installed mikoshi (portable shrine).
The mikoshi weighs two and a half tons and is said to be the largest in Japan.
The Takayama Festival is held twice a year, in spring and autumn, and the
shrines, regions, and Yatai that hold the festival are completely different.
The spring festival is held at Hie Shrine, and the autumn festival is held at
Sakurayama Hachiman Shrine. The Yatai on display at the Takayama Festival
Float Hall are the ones used in the autumn Takayama Festival.
