Hokkaido Rail Pass can be used toward on all JR Hokkaido train lines with the exception of Hokkaido Shinkansen. Hokkaido Rail Pass cannot be used on lines of other companies such as South Hokkaido Railway, Sapporo Municipal Subway, etc.
Hokkaido Rail Pass holders cannot ride the Hokkaido Shinkansen Hayabusa and Hayate trains. If you wish to ride the Hokkaido Shinkansen, you will be required to purchase a separate Basic fare ticket, Limited express ticket, etc.
Hokkaido Rail Pass holders cannot take the “South Hokkaido Railway”. A separate ticket will be required when taking the train.
Hokkaido Rail Pass holders cannot take the reserved seats of SL Paleo Express. A separate ticket will be required when taking the train.

JR Hokkaido Pass gives access to basically everything we needed to do daily trips out of Sapporo, including taking the Lavender Express Train to Furano to explore Farm Tomita and its lush surroundings. We exchanged our email QR code for the actual passes at the airport train station and it was fast and easy - just needed our passports. Highly recommended.
