Highlights

Step back in time to ancient China with a walk along the famed Great Wall, one of the most remarkable structures on Earth. This UNESCO-listed attraction is an incredible feat of engineering. Archaeologists estimate that it once spanned a distance of nearly 10,000 km and dates back 2,300 years.

The Great Wall actually consists of numerous walls, many of them parallel to each other, that were built over two millennia across northern China. The most extensive and best-preserved section of the wall dates from the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644) and often traces the crestlines of hills and mountains as it snakes across the Chinese countryside. It is no wonder that walking this ancient wall is on so many bucket lists!

Itinerary

  • Great Wall at Huangya Pass (Huangyaguan Changcheng)

    4 hoursAdmission Ticket Included
Your driver and guide will collect you from either your hotel in Tianjin or the Tianjin International Cruise Terminal and take you to the Huangyaguan Great Wall. This section of wall was originally built over 1400 years ago in the Northern Qi Dynasty during the 6th century. It was rebuilt and reinforced in the Ming Dynasty, before several miles of wall were restored again in the 1980s. Built along mountains and craggy ridges, Huangyaguan is known for its high steps and steep climbs, and spectacular views over mountains, cliffs and watchtowers. It also attracts fewer tourists and offers a more authentic experience.
  • Huangyaguan Great Wall Scenic Spot

    4 hoursAdmission Ticket Included
Explore the wall accompanied by an expert guide, who will tell you all about the history of this fortification and ancient China. You will see watchtowers of varying shapes and sizes, some hollow and others solid. There are also barbicans, turrets, emplacements, barracks and other indispensable military facilities arranged along the wall. There will be plenty of time to sit and relax and capture photos of the wall and the surrounding countryside of pine and cypress trees. After walking, replenish your energy with a traditional Chinese meal in a home-style restaurant. Then continue the journey to the hotel in Tianjin or back to the cruise ship.
