The headquarters of the German Gestapo moved into the city the same year, and that's when the ethnic systematic torture and killing of the people began. The concentration Camp “Crveni krst” and “Bubanj” Memorial Park are sad reminders of that dark age of human history in this city.

Speaking about Old Romans, Niš is a birthplace of Constantine the Great, first Roman Emperor who converted Christianity to the legal religion in Roman Empire in AD 313.
