Highlights

You can get out of the city and experience this 42 mile bike ride on dirt trails and dirt roads on this beautiful ride in the wide open spacious areas between Denver and Colorado springs.

You will pass canyons, waterfalls, butte's, the front range mountains, green pastures, ranches, rivers and amazing scenery along the way.

It takes about 5 hours to bike and is generally flat but has some small inclines and declines. The first part is more uphill and then the second part is downhill to Colorado Springs. If people are still motivated and not tired they can go a further 9 miles and end their trip at the Garden of the Gods.

Itinerary

  • Castlewood Canyon State Park

We can pick you up where you are staying and head to the beginning of the bike trail which is about 45 minutes from Denver or an hour from Colorado Springs. We will start our bike trip at the northern end of Castle Rock Canyon which is a pretty canyon with a waterfall. At the bottom of the park we continue on dirt roads thru the rolling countryside past some large ranches and beautiful homes. In the distance you can see some formations like Nemrick Butte, Corner Mountain and Rattlesnake Butte. We will then get off the dirt road and continue our journey on the Greenland Open Space dirt Trail for several miles to Palmer Lake. From Palmer lake we continue on the Santa Fe Bike trail, which is named after the Santa Fe Railroad is runs parallel too. This trail gives nice views of the front range and it passes thru the Air Force Academy before heading into Colorado Springs along the Monument Creek. We end our trip just before we get into the commercial areas of Colorado Springs but people can have the option of going a little further to end their trip at the Garden of the Gods.
