— What You Can Expect —
Mari Mari Cultural Village is located deep in the countryside, away from the
modern and developing Kota Kinabalu city. The village operates as a museum
that preserves Borneo’s ethnic culture. It aims to share the knowledge,
history, culture, and tradition of Borneo with the world. Take this
opportunity to appreciate and experience the culture and lifestyle of Borneo’s
indigenous ethnic groups.
The village features five different ethnic tribes, the rice farmer Kadazan-
Dusun, the longhouse resident Rungus, the hunters and fisherman Lundayeh, the
cowboy and sea gypsy Bajau and the famously feared headhunting tribe Murut.
The Upside Down House provides travellers a glimpse into the traditional Sabah
kampung house—fully equipped with a kitchen, living room, bedrooms, toilet,
veranda and garden—in a new, upside-down perspective!
