Highlights

Nuremberg is known worldwide for its Christmas market, Albrecht Dürer and bratwurst. But the city has much more to offer: In an entertaining 90-minute walk under an expert guide, you will not only discover the postcard motifs of the Pegnitz metropolis, but also gain fascinating insights into its past.

The tour leads from the Hangman's House along the Pegnitz to the main market with the Frauenkirche and the Beautiful Fountain, on to the historic town hall and the famous Sebaldus Church and finally back through Weißgerbergasse, which was largely spared from war damage, over the Maxbrücke and the most beautiful part of the old town.

This tour is a German-speaking tour.

Itinerary

  • Henkerhaus

    10 minsAdmission Ticket Included
In the heart of Nuremberg's old town, built directly over the Pegnitz, is the 500-year-old executioner's house. For centuries, the building served as the official residence of the Nuremberg executioners and their families. Today, a newly designed exhibition on legal and criminal history awaits visitors in the historic building.
  • Der Schoene Brunnen

    10 minsAdmission Ticket Free
The approximately 19 meter high "Beautiful Fountain" (1385 to 1396) illustrates this with its 40 brightly painted figures from history, politics, church and education medieval worldview. In the Middle Ages it was mainly used for water supply. The tube well was supplied with fresh water by a specially installed water pipe, the Schönbrunn pipe.
  • St. Sebaldus Church

    10 minsAdmission Ticket Free
The Sebaldus Church is the oldest parish church in the city. It was built around 1230 in the form of a late Romanesque pillar basilica and was dedicated to Saint Sebald, who is still associated with numerous blessings and legends today. His grave is still in the church today.
  • Weissgerbergasse

    10 minsAdmission Ticket Free
The houses on Weißgerbergasse survived the air raids in World War II largely unscathed. In this way, part of its late medieval character could be preserved and today allows us an insight into the world of Nuremberg crafts. As the name of the street suggests, lived and worked here once white tanners who made a particularly fine leather from wild, lamb and goat skins.
  • Kettensteg

    10 minsAdmission Ticket Free
The chain bridge was made in 1824 by the Nuremberg mechanic designed by Georg Kuppler. The result is a technical marvel of the early industrial age. Today, the chain bridge is the oldest surviving suspension bridge made entirely of metal in the German-speaking world.
