The Cerro Gordo Tower was built in the 16th century on top of an old watchtower from the times of the Kingdom of Granada to protect the workers and fishermen in the area. It visually connects to the west with the Caleta or Cantarriján tower, and to the east with the Torre de la Herradura.
Formerly it was a favorable place for pirates, who took control of this area to enter the territory and cause terror in the native population, a fact that had a decisive influence on the low number of residents who lived in the towns nearby.
