In the heart of Joo Chiat lies The Intan, Singapore’s first and only Peranakan private home museum. Owner Alvin Yapp, who has spent over 30 years devoting himself to curating Peranakan treasures, has transformed his home into a haven where you can learn about all about age-old Peranakan traditions and sample authentic Nyonya food.
Alvin Yap is a great and engaging host. We learned so much from him about Peranakan culture. I love his collection and stories behind each piece. Highly recommended! Will surely be back with other family members and friends.
Alvin was really friendly and he described in great detail his experience in preserving and collecting artifacts of the local Peranakan community. It’s different from the more curated and “sanitised” museum in Melaka. Would recommend if interested to know more about it.
Fantastic experience. Well worth a visit. A unique and large collection of beautiful Perakanan vintage and antique items. Alvin is inspiring, and generous with his time. Highly recommended
Alvin’s Peranakan collection is spectacular (the localised figurines of Virgin Mary and Infant Jesus were of interest to me especially). The ambience of the tour and the kuehs at the end made the whole experience even nicer. Definitely recommend!
Alvin has been such a great and engaging host. It was a good experience if you really into heritage and culture. His knowledge and collectibles are sure to impress you.
