to the Edo Era. Originally a money exchanger in Fushimi, Tondaya relocated to
Nishijin after the Battle of Toba-Fushimi in 1868, where it built its current
house in 1885. This Meiji Era structure features a workshop, living space, and

as a National Cultural Heritage site in 1999, Tondaya now operates as the
