You will be picked up in air conditioned comfort by an English speaking guide
for this small group tour. Visit Churchill Island Farm, an historic homestead
and a working heritage farm that dates back to 1872. Try your hand a milking a
cow or cracking a stockwhip, watch a sheep get shorn, and enjoy seeing the
incredibly preserved historic buildings displaying how life was lived back in
1872. Take in the spectacular view from The Nobbies Lookout, you may even spot
Australia's largest colony of Fur Seals at Seal Rock. Then just before dusk we
make our way to the home to the largest Little Penguin colony in the world,
where you will see the penguins roll in from the surf at sunset and make their
way waddling across the sand into their burrows for the night.
Churchill Island Heritage Farm:
The island, off an island! Churchill Island is a small island, almost
connected by mangroves to Phillip Island. On it sits a property that has been
continuously farmed since 1872! Here you will discover pioneer farming
techniques, watch traditional activities like cow milking, sheep shearing,
blacksmithing and working dog demonstrations, some of which you even have an
opportunity to participate in. All this amongst a scenic patchwork of
farmland, gardens, wetlands and walking tracks covering 57 hectares surrounded
by the sea. You will have the opportunity to purchase your lunch from the café
on site.
The Nobbies:
Time for the great views at The Nobbies. Wander the boardwalk as it meanders
around the lookout, taking in the stunning views of this rugged coastline.
Watch the largest colony of Fur seals in Australia frolick around Seal Rocks,
take in the thunder of the blow hole and keep your eyes peeled for an array of
birdlife.
Phillip Island Penguin Parade:
As dusk approaches so do the star attractions, the cute little penguins! Like
clockwork every day, they emerge at dusk from the ocean and waddle adorably
across the beach making their way home for the night in their burrows. It's
hard not to smile at these endearing little creatures, it's truly a memorable
experience. When the penguins are tucked safely in for the night we head back
to Melbourne to the same pick up location. You will have the opportunity to
purchase your dinner at the café on site.
In Summer (when the Penguins come in later) you will also be able to visit the
beautiful seaside town of Cowes to purchase your dinner before the Penguin
Parade. Throughout the rest of the year dinner can be purchased at the Penguin
Parade.
Return back to central Melbourne pick up location.
Churchill Island Farm and Phillip Island Penguin Parade are both KultureCity
