Highlights

One of the most unmissable Balinese experiences is watching the kecak fire dance on the Uluwatu Stage, near the sunset cliff of Uluwatu temple. As the sun sets, the rhythmic chanting of the performers, known as "kecak," fills the air, creating a dramatic scene with a mystical ambience. Picture Balinese dancers adorned in vibrant costumes skillfully bringing to life the characters of the Hindu epic Ramayana saga, with the spotlight on Prince Rama.

The Kecak Dance: An Iconic Dance and Musical Drama

The kecak dance (or Bali fire dance) is renowned for its unique portrayal of the Hanuman, the Monkey King, and blazing fire dance performances. Watch in awe as dancers confidently stroll through embers unscathed, symbolising divine protection. This traditional Balinese ancient ritual and sacred dance is an immersion into the heart of Balinese culture and mythology. The dance's intense energy, synchronised movements, and dramatic storytelling will captivate audiences of all ages, and is a must-see for all travellers visiting Bali.

As the dance performance begins, be in awe as the performers enter the stage, forming a circle and sitting cross-legged in a pattern resembling concentric circles. With the cliff facing the beautiful sunset, watch as the dancers start to chant “chak-ke-chak” in a purely vocal performance with no musical instruments involved, depicting an army of monkeys from the Ramayana story and creating a trance-like state for the performers, with the fire torches adding to the atmosphere.

The second show has both the red and white monkey. They come into the audience and interact with the audience. The best part is that you get to take pictures with the dancers including the monkeys. The show is like a Romeo and Juliet and the fire dance is really exciting to see.

If you can also sell the temple entry ticket together it will help. Otherwise it was good to skip the huge line and just use a shorter line to get the voucher for already booked online voucher which had some discount as well.
