JR Haruka Express Train
The JR Haruka Express Train is a fast and convenient service operated by Japan Railways (JR), providing direct connections from Kansai International Airport to key cities in the Kansai region, including Osaka and Kyoto.
What trains are covered?
In addition to the Kansai-Airport Express “HARUKA,” passengers can also access Special Rapid Services, Rapid Services, and local trains for greater flexibility in travel.
Eligibility
- This offer is not valid for Japanese passport holders.
- Valid only for non-Japanese passport holders with a "Temporary Visitor" Visa stamp on the passport. Non-Japanese passport holders with a permanent residence in Japan cannot use this product.
- Secure a Temporary Visitor Stamp at immigration to be eligible for a JR Pass. Do not pass through the automated gates, as no stamp will be applied.
- Up to two children 0-5 years old travel free with an adult rail pass holder. No separate seats will be allocated.
- Please note: A child rail pass is needed for each additional child starting from the third.

Good to Know
- You can exchange your reserved seat coupon only once, and the reserved seats need to be exchanged separately.
- To reserve your seat, please use the green machine or go to the green window.
- If all reserved seats are taken or if you haven't redeemed your reserved seat ticket in advance, you can still use your ticket to take a free seat on the train.
- Staff is available for guests requiring disability assistance.
- Please refer to the schedule for the first and last trains from/to Kansai airport station.
- Please note that not all Haruka trains feature the Hello Kitty design.
Child Policy
- Free for infants under 1 year old.
- Adults or children with a free pass may bring up to two infants (ages 1 to 5) at no additional cost. A separate pass is required for a third child.
Voucher Use
HARUKA e-Ticket Machine
- Show your QR code at the HARUKA e-Ticket Machine near the JR ticket gates.
- Scan the QR code at the machine.
- Choose your train (including those departing in 5 minutes).
- Get your boarding pass and go to the window for manual check-in.
- If the machine is not working, please exchange your ticket at the JR-West Green Window or at the Green Ticket-Vending Machines with a passport mark.
- You can exchange your ticket from 5:30 AM until 5 minutes before the last HARUKA train on the day of boarding.
- If the reserved-seat car (car No.4) is crowded, you can use the unreserved seats.
- Once exchanged for a train ticket, no refunds or changes are allowed. Physical tickets obtained from the HARUKA e-Ticket Machine cannot be cancelled, even before use.
- Lost tickets cannot be reissued; please buy a new one.
- If your train is suspended before boarding, please use a non-reserved seat on another HARUKA train or the Kansai-Airport Rapid Service.

Green ticket-vending machine
- After booking, you will receive a confirmation email to the appointed email address.
- Please go to a Green Ticket-Vending Machine to collect your physical ticket by scanning the QR code from your e-ticket and your non-Japanese passport. (The machine's menu can be displayed in Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, or Korean)
- If the machine is not working or your passport does not have an IC chip, please proceed to a JR-WEST Ticket Office to exchange your physical ticket.
- Once completed, your physical pass will be successfully redeemed.
- Exchanging Reserved Seat Tickets: Before boarding, visit the Green Ticket-Vending Machine to collect your reserved seat tickets using your area pass.

Is the JR Haruka Express part of the JR Pass?
The Limited Express Haruka is the only direct train service from Kansai Airport to Kyoto Station. The journey takes about one hour and fifteen minutes and is fully covered by the Japan Rail Pass. However, if your travel plans don't make full use of the Japan Rail Pass - such as when you're visiting just a few places - buying Haruka train tickets individually might be a more affordable option in the long run. Just keep in mind that the Haruka Express is different from the Kansai Airport Rapid Service (also covered by the JR Pass), which connects to JR stations at Tennoji, Osaka, and Kyobashi.
Do I need to reserve seats on the JR Haruka Airport Express?
You don't technically need to reserve seats on the Haruka Express, as there are non-reserved seating options available. However, if you'd prefer the comfort and peace of mind of having a guaranteed seat - especially during busy times - it's highly recommended to get reserved seat tickets.
