    You will sail overlooking the Castle of São Jorge and Lisbon's traditional Fado district, Alfama. The first walls of the castle, which was rebuilt several times by different peoples and received different names, date from the 2nd century BC. .João I in the 14th century. Alfama is the oldest and one of the most typical neighborhoods in the city of Lisbon. Currently, it covers part of the parish of Santa Maria Maior and another part of the parish of São Vicente. Its name derives from the Arabic al-hamma (الحمّة), which means 'source of warm waters, good waters'.

    You will sail through Praça do Comércio (Terreiro do Paço) with a brief stop for photographs. It is one of the largest squares in Europe, measuring around 36,000 m² (180m x 200m). In a prominent position on the right bank of the Tagus River, the original monument, in perishable materials, was erected in 1940 on the occasion of the Portuguese World Exhibition to honor the historical figures involved in the Portuguese Discoveries. The current replica, in concrete and stone, is later, having been inaugurated in 1960.

The monument stands out for its implicit nationalism, as it is completely surrounded by decorations of the Coat of Arms of Portugal, including inscriptions of crosses of the Order of Christ on the bastion windows; such characteristics refer mainly to the typical architecture of a time when the country was a global power (the beginning of the Modern Age).
